# Rumours Vinyl at 50: First Pressing, Value and What Your Copy Is Worth

**Fleetwood Mac's Rumours turns 50 on 4 February 2027**, and it is one of the most-pressed records ever made: more than 40 million copies sold, and close to 500 vinyl versions on Discogs. An ordinary 1977 copy is therefore a common record, usually worth listening-copy money. You can recognise a US original in a minute: **Warner Bros. BSK 3010** on the spine (with price code `0798`), a textured single sleeve rather than a gatefold, a fold-out lyric insert, and `KP` with `MASTERED BY CAPITOL` in the dead wax. The records that fetch real money are sealed first pressings, signed copies and a few special editions, and this guide names the documented ones.

By VinylAI Editorial Updated October 12, 2026

## Key Takeaways

- The US original is Warner Bros. BSK 3010 (4 February 1977): a textured single sleeve with a fold-out photo and lyric insert, spine price code 0798, and runouts with KP (cutter Ken Perry) and MASTERED BY CAPITOL.
- The UK original is K 56344 (also printed K56344). Some UK copies were cut by "ALLEN" and pressed by Island; others use Capitol-mastered lacquers marked INT'L KP.
- Rumours is extremely common: over 40 million sold, and about 67,500 Discogs users list just one of the 1977 US pressings. A played copy is a listening copy.
- The highest documented Rumours sale we found is $14,196 for a cover signed by all five members (RR Auction, November 2024). An ordinary played 1977 copy is a listening copy.

## Rumours turns 50

Warner Bros. released *Rumours* in the US on 4 February 1977, and in the UK about a week later. Wikipedia puts its worldwide sales at more than 40 million copies as of February 2023. That figure is the most important fact on this page, because it decides what most copies are worth. A record sold in those numbers is in millions of homes, and most of those copies were played.

Demand for **Rumours vinyl** peaks every December. In 2026 the run-up to the 50th anniversary sits on top of that. As of 12 October 2026, no 50th-anniversary vinyl reissue had been announced. What has been announced is a book, Andrea Swensson's *Fleetwood Mac and Rumours: 50 Years*, due on 27 October 2026. The album also got a Dolby Atmos Blu-ray in 2024. If an anniversary vinyl edition is announced, we will add it here.

## The 1977 US original (BSK 3010): how to tell

Every US copy from 1977 carries the catalogue number **BSK 3010**. Check these points:

1. **Spine and labels:** BSK 3010, with the price code `0798` on the spine. The 1977 labels are Warner's "Burbank" design, with a picture of a tree-lined street and the words "Burbank, home of Warner Bros. Records" at the top.
2. **Sleeve:** a **textured single sleeve, not a gatefold.** Inside is an 11½" x 23" fold-out cardstock insert with photos, credits and lyrics. A copy without the insert is incomplete.
3. **Runout:** the lacquers were cut by Ken Perry at Capitol. Look for `KP` and the stamped words `MASTERED BY CAPITOL`. A typical side A reads `BSK-1-3010 LW2 F12 KP MASTERED BY CAPITOL`.
4. **Plant mark:** Rumours was pressed by many plants at once, and each left its mark. A stamped `✲` means Capitol's Los Angeles plant. Copies with "Jacksonville" etched in cursive come from Capitol Jacksonville, and `◈-P-◈` means MCA's Pinckneyville plant. Discogs identifies Winchester copies by palm-tree centre labels, and also lists 1977 pressings from Terre Haute, Pitman, Monarch, Gloversville, Goldisc and PRC.

No plant is "the" first pressing, and none is rarer in any way that matters for value. They pressed simultaneously to meet demand. The idea that one plant's copies are worth several times more is a myth. For the general method, see our [first pressing identification guide](https://vinylai.app/guides/first-pressing-identification/).

## UK and other 1977 pressings

Outside North America, *Rumours* had its own catalogue numbers:

- **UK: K 56344**, printed without the space (K56344) on the sleeve and insert. Two families exist. Some copies were pressed by Island Records Manufacturing and cut in the UK, with runouts like `K 56344 A3 ALLEN EG`. Others were pressed at CBS Aston Clinton from Capitol-mastered lacquers, with `BSK-1-3010 F18 INT'L KP` etched next to `K 56344 AI MASTERED BY CAPITOL`. Early UK copies came with a large four-page booklet.
- **Germany: WB 56 344**, with "Burbank" street-scene labels, a textured cover and a four-page fold-out sheet. The runouts have `MASTERED BY CAPITOL` and `Manufactured in Germany` stamped.
- **Netherlands: WB 56344. Canada: BSK 3010**, pressed by Quality with a `Q` under the label numbers.
- **Japan: P-10233W**, made by Warner-Pioneer, list price ¥2,500, with an English lyric insert and a Japanese one. A Japanese promo exists.

Australia and Scandinavia also had 1977 editions on BSK 3010. As with the US plants, country matters for identification. For value, condition and completeness count for far more. If your copy came from a record club, read the next section.

## Record club copies and special editions

**Record club copies.** Clubs sold *Rumours* by mail in huge numbers. The RCA Music Service edition is easy to spot: the labels and runout read `R-124025` instead of the Capitol cut. It came with the same fold-out insert in a textured cover. Discogs lists further club editions. They are complete records, but collectors pay less for them than for retail copies. Our [guide to record club editions](https://vinylai.app/guides/record-club-editions-explained/) explains how to recognise any club copy.

**Special editions.** A few genuinely uncommon Rumours items do exist. These are the ones that legitimately cost more than a normal copy:

- A **"thank you" special edition**, marked with a stamp for the album's 31 weeks at No. 1.
- An **AGI employee edition**, with an embossed thank-you from the company that made the textured jackets.
- **1977 US test pressings** with their label copy sheet.
- A **Nautilus** test pressing. Heritage Auctions sold one in August 2023.

If you are offered any other 1977 special edition, check it against the Discogs listings first and ask for very good evidence. Our [guide to promos and test pressings](https://vinylai.app/guides/promo-white-label-and-test-pressings/) explains what proof to ask for.

The reissues worth knowing:

- **Nautilus NR 8 (1980)**, a "Superdisc" audiophile edition. It is digitally remastered, has KP and MASTERED BY CAPITOL in the runout, and comes with a Nautilus poly sleeve and a poster.
- **2011 Record Store Day LP (517786-1)**, cut by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman at AcousTech and pressed by Pallas. The initial run was 3,000, and it then stayed in print. There is also a **45 rpm 2LP (517787-1)**, 180g, limited to 4,000 copies.
- **The standard 2011 reissue (9362-49793-5)**, cut by Heino Leja and pressed by Optimal. It has been repressed many times and is the copy most new buyers own.
- **2019 clear vinyl (RCV1 517786)**, a Walmart exclusive.
- **2024 Record Store Day picture disc (RPD1 3010)**: 18,000 worldwide, 7,500 in the US, the first picture disc of the cover.
- **2025 R1 3010**, cut by Chris Bellman and pressed by Memphis Record Pressing.
- **2026 coloured editions**, including "Cola Bottle Clear" (RCV1 728854) and "Silver Teal" (RCV1 728855).

## What your Rumours vinyl is worth

The honest answer for most readers: **a played 1977 copy of Rumours is worth listening-copy money, typically less than a new reissue costs.** That is a rule of thumb, not a quote. It follows from supply: about 67,500 Discogs users list the Capitol Los Angeles pressing alone, and Discogs carries close to 500 vinyl versions. There is always another copy.

These are the documented high-value sales we could verify:

| Item | Result | Where and when |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Album cover signed by all five members (no record) | $14,196 | RR Auction, ended 21 November 2024 |
| Signed by all five, with record | $2,984 | RR Auction, ended 10 May 2017 |
| Sealed stereo first pressing, graded 9.0 | sold, price not public | Heritage Auctions, 20 November 2023 |
| Sealed early pressing, textured cover, graded 8.5 | sold, price not public | Heritage Auctions, 3 October 2024 |

We found no auction or press record of an unsigned copy selling above $5,000; the highest documented sale is $14,196 for an album cover signed by all five members (RR Auction, November 2024).

The pattern is clear. The big numbers come from **signatures** and **verified sealed copies**, not from a 1977 date or a pressing plant. What lifts an ordinary copy: clean, quiet vinyl (grade it with our [vinyl grading guide](https://vinylai.app/guides/vinyl-grading-guide/)), the fold-out insert, and a textured sleeve without seam splits or ring wear. A sealed copy needs checking for reseals before anyone pays a premium. Our [sealed vinyl value guide](https://vinylai.app/guides/sealed-vinyl-records-value/) explains how.

## Which Rumours edition to buy

| If you want… | Buy | Why |
| --- | --- | --- |
| The original sound, cheaply | A clean 1977 BSK 3010 with `KP` / `MASTERED BY CAPITOL` | Ken Perry's original cut, easy to find. Pick on condition and the insert. |
| A new copy as a gift | The current Warner/Reprise reissue (2011 cut or the 2025 R1 3010) | In print and inexpensive. |
| The audiophile version | The 2011 RSD 45 rpm 2LP (517787-1), or the 2011 Kevin Gray / Steve Hoffman LP | Cut at AcousTech. The 45 rpm edition was limited to 4,000. |
| A display piece | The 2024 RSD picture disc | 18,000 worldwide. For looks, not sound. |
| A collector piece | A verified sealed 1977 copy, or a signed copy with provenance | These are what actually command high prices. |

If you own an original and want to sell it, timing helps more than the plant code: interest peaks in December and around anniversaries. Describe the plant, the runout and the insert accurately, and photograph the dead wax.

*Rumours* sits beside the other great 1976–77 blockbuster in most collections. Our [Hotel California vinyl guide](https://vinylai.app/guides/hotel-california-vinyl-value-guide/) uses the same method for the Eagles. For the rest of the band's catalogue, see our [Fleetwood Mac vinyl guide](https://vinylai.app/guides/fleetwood-mac-vinyl-records/). To identify your copy from a photo, the VinylAI app reads the label and catalogue number, matches the pressing and adds it to your collection.

## FAQ: Rumours vinyl value

How can I tell if my Rumours vinyl is a first pressing?

A US 1977 copy has catalogue number BSK 3010 on the spine and labels, price code 0798 on the spine, and Warner's "Burbank" street-scene labels. It comes in a textured single sleeve, not a gatefold, with a fold-out lyric and photo insert. In the dead wax look for KP (cutter Ken Perry) and MASTERED BY CAPITOL. A plant mark such as ✲ (Los Angeles) shows which factory pressed it. All the 1977 plants count as first pressings.

What's the most valuable Rumours pressing ever sold?

The highest documented Rumours sale we could verify is $14,196 for an album cover signed by all five members, at RR Auction in November 2024. A signed copy with its record made $2,984 there in 2017. Heritage Auctions sold sealed 1977 copies in 2023 and 2024, at undisclosed prices.

Are newer Rumours reissues worth collecting?

A few are. The 2011 Record Store Day 45 rpm 2LP (517787-1) was limited to 4,000 copies and cut by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman. The 2024 RSD picture disc was limited to 18,000. The 1980 Nautilus NR 8 is a period audiophile edition. Standard reissues such as 9362-49793-5 are pressed continuously and are listening copies.

How much does condition affect Rumours vinyl value?

More than anything else, because *Rumours* is so common: a buyer can always find another copy. A clean, quiet record with its fold-out insert and an unsplit textured sleeve sells well above a worn copy. A scratched copy without the insert is hard to sell at all. Grade the vinyl and the sleeve separately using Goldmine standards, and photograph both before listing.

Where's the best place to sell a valuable Rumours pressing?

For an ordinary original, a marketplace where buyers search by pressing details works best. List the catalogue number, plant mark, runout and grade. For a verified sealed 1977 copy or a signed copy with provenance, specialist auction houses are the route. Heritage Auctions has sold sealed Rumours copies, and RR Auction sold the signed ones. Timing matters: demand peaks in December and around the anniversary.

How much is the Fleetwood Mac Rumours album worth?

A typical 1977 vinyl copy is worth listening-copy money, usually less than a new reissue, because over 40 million copies of the album were sold. Value rises with condition and completeness, meaning the fold-out insert and the textured sleeve. Real money is paid for verified sealed first pressings, special editions such as the "thank you" edition, and signed copies. A cover signed by all five sold for $14,196 in 2024.
