Cruiser

## A suitcase record player

Turntable, amplifier and two small speakers in one case with a lid and a handle. A belt turns the platter; a snap-in needle reads the groove. Tap any part to see it on its own.

3D model made by VinylAI from the layout drawings in the maker's manual. Proportions are approximate; no logos are shown.

- This page covers the Cruiser Plus CR8005F, the Cruiser Crosley sells now, and its Zodiac edition CP8005F (same deck, same manual). Older Cruisers (CR8005A, B, C, D, DP, E and U) share the suitcase design but take a different needle: see the table.

## Replacement parts

Crosley lists NP-16 in the 2025 US manual and NP6 in the 2021 EU manual — check page 3 of yours.

## What goes wrong

From the troubleshooting section on page 9 of the CR8005F manual (the same page in the US and EU editions) and the auto-stop note on page 6.

| Symptom | Cause | What to do | Manual |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| No power. | Adaptor not connected properly; no power at the outlet; the player switched itself off after 20 minutes without sound. | Reconnect the adaptor and check the outlet. After an automatic power-off, switch it off and on again. | [Cruiser Plus CR8005F manual (US, 2025), p. 9](https://res.cloudinary.com/crosbit/image/upload/manual/CR8005F_CruiserPlusRecordPlayer.pdf#page=9) |
| Power is on, but the platter does not turn. | The drive belt has slipped off; an aux-in cable is plugged in (aux overrides the turntable). | Refit the belt (Crosley customer service sells belts); unplug the aux cable. | [Cruiser Plus CR8005F manual (US, 2025), p. 9](https://res.cloudinary.com/crosbit/image/upload/manual/CR8005F_CruiserPlusRecordPlayer.pdf#page=9) |
| The platter turns, but there is no sound or it is too quiet. | Stylus protector still on; tonearm held up by the cue lever; headphones plugged in. | Remove the stylus protector, lower the cue lever, unplug the headphones. | [Cruiser Plus CR8005F manual (US, 2025), p. 9](https://res.cloudinary.com/crosbit/image/upload/manual/CR8005F_CruiserPlusRecordPlayer.pdf#page=9) |
| The player stops before the end of the record. | Auto-stop triggers early (rare). | Switch auto-stop off. | [Cruiser Plus CR8005F manual (US, 2025), p. 6](https://res.cloudinary.com/crosbit/image/upload/manual/CR8005F_CruiserPlusRecordPlayer.pdf#page=6) |

## Set up the Cruiser

The setup from the Cruiser Plus CR8005F manual, step by step on the model. Play these steps on the 3D model →

1. **Find a flat spot.** Put the player on a flat, level surface that does not vibrate. **Why:** The speakers are in the same case as the stylus, so a shaky surface shakes both. **Tip:** Open the lid fully so it does not fall onto the arm. From: [Cruiser Plus CR8005F manual (US, 2025), p. 5](https://res.cloudinary.com/crosbit/image/upload/manual/CR8005F_CruiserPlusRecordPlayer.pdf#page=5)
2. **Free the tonearm.** Remove the tie-wrap that holds the tonearm for shipping. **Why:** The tie keeps the arm still in the box; it has to go before the arm can move. **Tip:** Cut it carefully, away from the needle. From: [Cruiser Plus CR8005F manual (US, 2025), p. 5](https://res.cloudinary.com/crosbit/image/upload/manual/CR8005F_CruiserPlusRecordPlayer.pdf#page=5)
3. **Connect the power.** Plug the adaptor into the power jack. Plug it into the wall only after all other connections are made. Optional: connect the RCA jacks to powered speakers or a stereo input. **Why:** The RCA output is line level: right for powered speakers and stereo inputs, not for passive speakers. **Tip:** The built-in speakers work without anything connected. From: [Cruiser Plus CR8005F manual (US, 2025), p. 5](https://res.cloudinary.com/crosbit/image/upload/manual/CR8005F_CruiserPlusRecordPlayer.pdf#page=5)
4. **Switch on, choose PHONO.** Turn the On/Off volume knob to switch on, and set the function switch to PHONO. The indicator turns red. **Why:** On the Bluetooth setting the record turns but you hear the phone instead. **Tip:** Start with the volume low. From: [Cruiser Plus CR8005F manual (US, 2025), p. 6](https://res.cloudinary.com/crosbit/image/upload/manual/CR8005F_CruiserPlusRecordPlayer.pdf#page=6)
5. **Set the speed, add a record.** Set the speed switch to match the record and put the record on the platter. For singles with a large hole, use the 45 adapter. **Why:** The wrong speed changes both pitch and tempo. **Tip:** The speed is printed on the record label. From: [Cruiser Plus CR8005F manual (US, 2025), p. 6](https://res.cloudinary.com/crosbit/image/upload/manual/CR8005F_CruiserPlusRecordPlayer.pdf#page=6)
6. **Remove the protector, release the clip.** Take the protector off the stylus and release the hold-down clip on the arm rest. **Why:** With the protector on, the needle cannot touch the groove, and there is no sound. **Tip:** Keep the protector for when you carry the player. From: [Cruiser Plus CR8005F manual (US, 2025), p. 6](https://res.cloudinary.com/crosbit/image/upload/manual/CR8005F_CruiserPlusRecordPlayer.pdf#page=6)
7. **Lower the arm with the cue lever.** Raise the arm with the tonearm lever, move it over the record, then lower the lever to play. **Why:** The lever sets the needle down gently instead of dropping it. **Tip:** After play, raise the arm, return it to the rest and close the clip. From: [Cruiser Plus CR8005F manual (US, 2025), p. 6](https://res.cloudinary.com/crosbit/image/upload/manual/CR8005F_CruiserPlusRecordPlayer.pdf#page=6)

Bluetooth: set the function switch to Bluetooth and pair your phone with "CROSLEY CR8005F" to play through the speakers; the middle position sends the record to Bluetooth speakers or headphones (manual pages 7–8).

## Does the Cruiser need a protractor?

No. The Cruiser has no step for mounting or aligning a cartridge: the factory sets where the stylus sits. An [alignment protractor](https://vinylai.app/turntables/protractor/) is for turntables where you fit the cartridge yourself.

## Questions about the Cruiser

Which needle fits my Crosley Cruiser?

For the Cruiser Plus CR8005F: Crosley lists NP-16 in the 2025 US manual and NP6 in the 2021 EU manual — check page 3 of yours. For older Cruisers (CR8005A, B, C, D, DP, E and U), Crosley's needle guide lists the NP6.

How long does a Crosley needle last?

Crosley's care guide says sapphire needles last up to 100 hours. Both the NP-16 and NP6 have sapphire tips.

Where do I get a new belt for the Cruiser?

Crosley publishes no belt part number. Its care guide says belts are bought from Crosley customer service at 1-866-CROSLEY.

Why does my Cruiser not spin?

Crosley's manual gives two causes: the drive belt has slipped off, or an aux-in cable is plugged in, which overrides the turntable (page 9).

Can I connect the Cruiser to speakers?

Yes, to powered speakers or a stereo input through the RCA jacks, which carry a line-level signal. Not to passive speakers (page 5). It can also send sound to Bluetooth speakers or headphones.

Does the Cruiser play 78s?

Yes. It has 33⅓, 45 and 78 rpm, and Crosley lists both the NP-16 and NP6 needles for all three speeds.
