What you can ask

Start with one of these in Claude.

  • What record is this? (share a photo of the cover or the label: Claude reads it, VinylAI checks what it read against the catalog)
  • Which pressing has catalog number SHVL 804? The runout says SHVL 804 A-2U
  • Is this a first press?
  • Show every version of this album.
  • Save it to my collection as VG+, sleeve VG.
  • What's in my record collection? Which decade do I have most of?

Which pressing do I have?

Popular albums have hundreds of pressings, and a cover alone can't tell them apart. Every answer says which of three levels it reached, and what would narrow it further.

  1. The album

A cover is enough to name the album, and VinylAI tells you how many pressings the catalog holds for it. For The Dark Side of the Moon that is 671.

  2. A group of pressings

Add the catalog number, the label or the runout etching, and the list narrows to the pressings that match everything read. VinylAI shows what still differs inside the group: country, year, label, format.

  3. One exact pressing

When the catalog holds a single pressing that matches everything, VinylAI names it. When it doesn't, it says so and asks for the detail that would settle it, instead of guessing.

The runout lines in the dead wax and the barcode narrow it most. You can type them, or show Claude a sharp photo of the runout. When the catalog shows the earliest pressing it knows of, VinylAI says so and labels it as catalog data.

Keep your collection

The first time you save a record or ask about your collection, Claude shows a Connect button in the chat. Choose it, enter your email address, then the 6-digit code we send to it, and choose Continue. If you don't have a VinylAI account yet, this creates one. Claude then finishes what you asked.

Saved records go into your VinylAI collection with their condition, sleeve condition and your notes. The same collection opens in the VinylAI app on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android when you sign in there with the same email address.

Every record links to its Discogs page and to VinylAI. In the interactive card, Claude asks you to confirm before it opens the Discogs page.

What it does not do

VinylAI in Claude doesn't give prices or valuations. It only adds records: to edit or delete one, use the VinylAI app. And when it isn't sure of a match, it says so instead of naming a record it can't back up.

Your data

  • Your photo stays with Claude. Claude reads the photo you share and sends VinylAI only the details it read, such as an artist, a title, a catalog number or runout lines. VinylAI never receives the photo.
  • VinylAI receives only what Claude sends to its tools. It never sees your conversations, Claude's memory or your other files.
  • If you connect your account, VinylAI uses your email address to sign you in and keeps the records you save until you delete your account.
  • Our servers are in the United States.

Full details: privacy policy, section "AI Assistants".

Disconnect or delete

  • Disconnect: in Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, choose Vinyl Record Scanner - VinylAI, then Disconnect. Claude can then no longer see or add to your collection. Records you saved stay in your VinylAI account.
  • Delete your account: in the VinylAI app, open Settings, then Account & Sync, then Delete account. Or write to [email protected] from the account's email address. We answer within 30 days. Deleting removes all your records and every assistant connection.
