Vinyl in Zahlen
Zahlen zum Schallplattenmarkt, jeweils aus der Quelle des Branchenverbands, der sie veröffentlicht, mit Jahr und Messmethode. Diese Zahlen sind nicht austauschbar: Ein Land meldet, was ausgeliefert wurde, ein anderes, was an der Kasse verkauft wurde, ein drittes, was die Labels als Umsatz verbucht haben. Addiert man sie einfach, entsteht eine Zahl, die nichts bedeutet – der häufigste Fehler in diesem Themenfeld.
Diese Seite ist bewusst unvollständig. Eine Zeile taucht erst auf, wenn jemand die Quelle geöffnet und sowohl die Zahl als auch die Messmethode bestätigt hat — alles noch Unbestätigte steht weiter unten, statt aus einer Sekundärquelle aufgefüllt zu werden.

Warum sich diese Zahlen nicht direkt vergleichen lassen
Jeder nationale Verband misst etwas anderes, und die Begriffe verschleiern das. RIAA veröffentlicht den Großhandelsumsatz aus Shipments — Schallplatten, die ein Vertriebslager verlassen haben, unabhängig davon, ob sie jemand gekauft hat. BVMI veröffentlicht den Handelsumsatz, also den Umsatz im Einzelhandel. SNEP veröffentlicht den chiffre d'affaires, den Umsatz der Labels. RIAJ veröffentlicht die Produktion: wie viele Platten hergestellt wurden. Eine Schlagzeile wie „deutsches Vinyl wuchs schneller als amerikanisches“ vergleicht Kassenbons mit Werksauslieferungen.

Nutzen Sie sie ruhig. Jede Zeile ist ein veröffentlichter Fakt mit genannter Quelle, und auf der Datenseite steht der komplette Datensatz als CSV unter einer Creative Commons Attribution-Lizenz. Wer daraus zitiert, sollte den Branchenverband für die Zahl und diese Seite für die Zusammenstellung nennen – und die Messmethode dabei nicht vergessen.
