About this record
The want/have signal for Metallica’s Precious Metal is 45 wanting it against 215 who own it, while the sale count is 0. This 1990 US unofficial LP is identified by After Hour Records (2), catalogue Metal-04, and the three listed runouts: METAL 04 A, METAL 04 B, and METAL 04 C.
Its release notes specify dark-red center labels for the first pressing and a live recording from City Hall, Sheffield.
What drives its value
The price guide places a Mint copy at $43.70, NM at $39.10, VG+ at $29.90, and VG at $20.70, with lower grades listed down to P at $2.30. These are guide estimates, not current asking prices: the snapshot reports 0 copies for sale and gives no lowest price.
Community data shows 45 wants against 215 haves, a demand signal that does not establish how often clean copies surface. This is an unofficial US pressing, not an original Metallica studio album edition; its value should be assessed as the specific After Hour Records (2) issue.
The first-pressing detail supplied is the dark-red center label, so that feature matters when comparing copies described as this pressing.
How to appraise this pressing
Confirm the issue against the After Hour Records (2) label credit and Metal-04 catalogue number, then compare the dead wax with the listed sides: METAL 04 A, METAL 04 B, and METAL 04 C. The release notes identify the first pressing by dark-red center labels.
The notes also place the live recording at City Hall, Sheffield, and flag two sleeve spellings: “Sanatorium” for track A4 and “Acting Like A Maniac” for track D8. Use those details to assess whether a copy’s labels, runouts, and back sleeve match the documented issue rather than relying on the title alone.
For grading, compare the copy’s condition with the guide’s named grades; it lists separate estimates for M, NM, VG+, and VG, with lower values for the remaining grades. The guide does not provide a current lowest price.
