About this record

Stamped in the dead wax, the runout 450911-B.10 marks this as a CBS Pressing Plant, Aston Clinton cut, and the matrix set 450911 1A, 450911 1B and 450 911.1 A5 sits alongside it. Demand is strong: 6067 collectors list this UK LP as a have against 239 who want one, and 209 copies are currently for sale.

The 1987 CBS release of Introducing The Hardline According To Terence Trent D'Arby, catalogue 450911 1, is an 11-track stereo album whose price follows condition closely.

What drives its value

The price guide places this pressing from 6.63 USD in Mint down to 0.35 USD in Poor, with Near Mint at 5.93, VG+ at 4.53, VG at 3.14, G+ at 1.74, G at 1.05 and F at 0.70. These are guide estimates, not sale results.

The cheapest listing currently sits at 1.96 USD, and 209 copies are for sale, so the market is well supplied. The one other catalogued pressing is a 1987 European issue on CBS under CBS 450911 1.

That makes the UK copy the reference pressing, and buyers should check whether a copy carries the PX mark below the barcode, which the release notes tie to a specific version, before paying toward the top of the range.

How to appraise this pressing

Confirm the label CBS and catalogue number 450911 1 on the spine and centre label, then read the dead wax. The runouts that match this pressing include 450911 1A, 450911 1B, 450 911.1 A5 and 450911-B.10.

The release notes say this version has PX below the barcode and no (TY) credit in the runouts, so a copy with (TY) in the runout falls outside this variant. Look also for the © 1987 CBS Records Distribution line and Made in England on the back cover, and for the Aston Clinton plant mark.

Some copies came with a green or red hype sticker, which is worth noting when grading the sleeve. Grade the disc and sleeve separately, using the price guide grades from M to P.

Labels: Made in England Except for Seven More Days and If You Let Me Stay which was done by Howard Grey, the red headed scouser of Camden, the remaining 9 songs were not "produced" but rather 'hardened' by Martyn 'Teddy Bear' Ware and Terence Trent D'Arby. It was sonically captured and psycho-acoustically assaulted by Phil 'Foghorn' Legg, The Laughing Man. With the exception of Who's Loving You which was written by the fantastically brilliant Smokey Robinson, all songs were written and arranged by Terence Trent D'Arby. Wishing Well is co-credited with the exceedingly talented and laid back Mr Sean Oliver who still owes me ten quid. If You Let Me Stay -- remix and additional overdubs for MHB Productions Inc.

The Bojangles are the musicians named on Track A4, who also feature on A5 and, without Pete Glenister, on B2 and B5. The Trent Tones are Frank Collins and Ebo Ross, the backing vocalists on B2 & B5. The 'Shout It Out' Reply Vocal Choral Ensemble are the members of A5's Chorus. The sleeve credits read: "Plus A Really Hard Brass Section" in addition to those listed for Track A5. Smokey Robinson is credited as the writer of B5 on the label, and William Robinson on the sleeve.
