About this record
Stamped into the dead wax as EST 2040 A and EST 2040 B, this UK Capitol pressing carries its own matrix fingerprint, and that is where identification starts. W.A.S.P.'s Live...
In The Raw arrived in 1987 with eleven tracks drawn from two Californian nights, and collectors who want the British edition are hunting a specific pressing rather than a generic LP. Demand is steady: 1851 collectors list a copy they own, while 149 list it as wanted.
What drives its value
The price_guide sets the M grade at 37.68 USD and the VG+ grade at 25.78 USD, with VG at 17.85 USD and G+ at 9.92 USD, so the spread runs from 37.68 at Mint down to 17.85 at VG, and condition moves the figure more than anything else on this release. At the time of the guide, 16 copies were listed for sale, with the lowest asking price at 2.97 USD, which tells you the market is deep but dominated by worn copies.
The community rating of 4.25 from 120 ratings and the 1851 have count against 149 want count point to a record that circulates widely and changes hands regularly. Because this is the UK Capitol edition, carrying catalogue EST 2040 and the EMI-pressed matrix, it sits apart from other pressings of the title, and that origin is what separates its valuation from a copy with a different label or runout.
How to appraise this pressing
Confirm the pressing by reading the dead wax: the matrix runouts should read EST 2040 A and EST 2040 B on the sides, with the extended codes EST 2040 A-1-1-1-1 D and EST 2040 B-1-1-1-1 D appearing as the stamped mother references. The pressing plant recorded is EMI Records, so the runout should show that plant's lineage rather than an unrelated stamper set.
Check the spine and back cover for catalogue 74 8053 1 alongside the main EST 2040 number, because the release lists both labels as Capitol Records and the two catalogue numbers should both be present. The back sleeve carries the notes that the sleeve was printed in England and the record manufactured in England, and the presence of the barcode is a further check.
Grade the disc under raking light against the sleeve grading you assign, placing the record in one of the grades from M down to P in the price guide, and be exact about the sleeve as well as the vinyl.

Frequently asked
What is a VG+ copy of Live... In The Raw worth?
The price_guide lists a VG+ value of 25.78 USD. This is an estimate taken from the guide, not a guaranteed sale price, and actual results depend on sleeve condition and buyer demand at the time of sale.
How do I tell this UK pressing apart from others?
Check the dead wax for EST 2040 A and EST 2040 B and the extended codes EST 2040 A-1-1-1-1 D and EST 2040 B-1-1-1-1 D, then confirm the pressing plant reads EMI Records. The sleeve should carry the notes printed in England, and both catalogue numbers EST 2040 and 74 8053 1 should match.
Which track is the studio recording on this release?
Track B5, Scream Until You Like It, is the studio recording. The other tracks come from the live shows recorded at California Theatre in San Diego on 8th of March 1987 and Long Beach Arena in Long Beach on 10th of March 1987.
What is the cheapest copy currently listed?
The lowest listed price is 2.97 USD, and 16 copies are currently for sale. That floor price reflects a copy below the VG grades in the guide, so condition should be verified before buying at that level.
Is the rating of this record high?
The community rating is 4.25 from 120 ratings. Those figures come from the database community and reflect user ratings rather than professional reviews.
